Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about the Senate altering the deal.

As the one big beautiful bill came out of the House, we talked about how there would likely be changes in the Senate.

Then we talked about how the rumors said they were already occurring. It's official now.

The Senate has chosen to alter the deal, and Speaker Johnson in the House is praying they don't

alter it further. Well, at least not too much further. The changes aren't known yet, at least not at

time of recording, but they should start coming out soon.

We don't really know what to expect. It's been described by Capitol Hill insiders as a bunch of trade-offs.

The House package reportedly did not have the votes to make it through a vote in the Senate.

In a comment that might have given away more than he meant to about how close the vote might be,

Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he was trying to get, quote,

a handle on what the dials are and how they can be turned and what the various options are to try to get to 51.

51, huh?

Soon doesn't seem to think they'll be able to get all Republicans to go along with it.

I'm guessing the two he's already written off are Senator Rand Paul and Ron Johnson.

That gives us a little insight, at least at this point.

It doesn't look like Thune plans on catering to the fiscal hawks, which means the package

stands a slim chance of being slightly less horrible and damaging than the House package. Don't get your

hopes up too much, and we probably won't get a clear picture right away. Generally, the Senate is

going to be better about keeping things out of the press. We might get bits and pieces, but I would

expect most of this to occur behind closed doors.
