So today, we're going to talk about the other vote that took place, unions and the future of Boeing.

The workers of the International Association of Machinist voted 59% in favor of a deal offered by Boeing.

With that, the most expensive strike in the U.S. in about a

quarter of a century comes to an end. The strike started on September 13th when 33,000 union

members walked off the job to demand better pay and retirement considerations. The union definitely

achieved their goal of getting better pay.

The four-year contract includes an immediate raise of 13% followed by 9% the next year,

9% the year after that, and 7 the last year. If you're wondering why a series of raises

like that only got 59% approval from the rank and file members,

it's probably the lack of return of the pension plan.

The workers wanted a return to the pension plan they lost in 2014.

Defined benefits provide a clear retirement for workers,

but large companies are becoming more and more reluctant to provide them.

One of the workers who voted in favor of accepting the new contract wasn't really happy with it,

and said that one of the biggest unions in the country not being able to get more from a company in as much trouble as Boeing is

in was humiliating. The worker is right. Even with an end to the strike, Boeing has a lot of issues.

The company needs money. And increasing production is only part of the solution. Boeing is reportedly looking at other

ways, including selling off companies that don't directly tie into their main business. Some of them

are minor companies that most people have never heard of. But one of the big possible moves

that Boeing might make is drawing a lot of attention. For 60 years,

Boeing has been involved in spaceflight, but now it appears Boeing wants to leave the space race.
