Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about the

U.S. House of Representatives, GOP friction, and the total dumpster fire of a budget. I wouldn't

normally open by calling something a dumpster fire, but that's a quote from a prominent Republican

talking about the Republican continuing resolution.

So things are going well there. Okay, so Speaker Johnson released the text for the continuing

resolution to keep the government open and avoid a government shutdown. Republican leadership

promised the text over the weekend,

but it didn't go out until Tuesday. That upset the rank and file to start with. We'll go over

the broad strokes of the bill real quick before we get to the Republican dysfunction. It provides

funding at current levels for the government through

March 14, 2025. Additionally, it includes a one-year extension for the Farm Bill, along with

$10 billion in economic assistance for farmers. It keeps a few health care programs rolling,

including telehealth.

It authorizes paying for all of the rebuilding of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

It has a reauthorization for DHS authorities for counterdron staff.

It has some restrictions on investments in China, and finally, has about a hundred billion

in disaster relief funding. Once the bill was presented, a few Republicans stormed out,

because they didn't approve of, well, a lot, but just the overall handling. Representative Eric Burleson of Missouri described Speaker Johnson's

plan as a, quote, total dumpster fire. He also used words like garbage and disappointed, and summed

the whole thing up by talking about Johnson, saying, quote, I think that he can do better.

He can communicate better.
