So today we're going to talk about a story coming out of Oterra County, New Mexico,

dealing with a county commissioner,

and the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.

A district court judge, Francis Matthew, ruled that Coy Griffin, a County Commissioner there, should be removed and cannot hold office again because of

his actions on January 6th at the Capitol.

Griffin is known as the founder of Cowboys for Trump

and was recently involved in a situation in which they were refusing to certify election results.

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution says, no person shall be a senator or

representative in Congress or elector of president and vice president or

hold any office civil or military under the United States or under any

state who having previously taken an oath as a member of Congress or as an

officer of the United States or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive

or judicial officer of any state to support the Constitution of the United States, shall

have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or

comfort to enemies thereof.

But Congress may vote, may buy a vote of two-thirds of each house to remove such disability.

So the general idea here is that because Griffin had already swore an oath of allegiance to the

U.S. Constitution, the actions there create this disability and stop him from

being able to hold office. The judge said that Griffin, incited, encouraged, and helped to normalize the violence on January 6th.

And that by joining the mob and trespassing on restricted capital grounds, Mr. Griffin contributed to delaying Congress's election
