Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump, Johnson, and speakership troubles.

Ever since the continuing resolution battle to keep the government funded in the House,

there's been trouble into split brewing between Trump and Johnson.

But for the most part, Trump seemed relatively supportive, or at least apathetic and not

openly calling for him to be replaced.

There are more and more signs that Johnson's continued speakership is in real trouble.

We're seeing a lot of non-committal answers from representatives who are asked about supporting Johnson's bid.

Now, we've got a new wrinkle.

House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris was asked about Johnson and said, quote,

Before the last couple of weeks, I was in his

corner. But now, we should consider what's the best path forward. We do need to consider whether

if we're going to advance Mr. Trump's agenda, whether the current leadership is what we need. That's a public split from a

faction of the Republican Party in the House that is strong enough to block his speakership.

Remember, it was the Freedom Caucus that led to the end of McCarthy's speakership. This is especially the case since Hakeem Jeffreys, speaking for the Democratic Party, said that

Dems were not going to aid Johnson in his quest to retain the speakership.

When you count up the majority and then subtract the expected resignations, Johnson can only lose one Republican

vote and keep his job. Representative Massey of Kentucky has already vowed to vote against him.

That puts Johnson on very thin ice. Now, he might still be able to pull it off, but it currently

seems pretty unlikely that he pulls it off cleanly and easily. That means no matter what,

no matter who ends up speaker, there will be disagreements and there will be hard feelings.

Those hard feelings are likely to carry over into internal politics afterward.
