Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about how Trump's guard deployments are already running into a familiar problem.

There's a pattern throughout Trump's political life. We've seen it play out over and over again.

But it's a pattern that maybe doesn't get

vocalized as much as it should. It starts with Trump selecting an issue that he pulls well on.

Then he makes that his cause of the week, or month, or however long it takes for the pattern to play

out, really. In this case, it was crying.

He sees it's a perceived strength for him, so he plays it up. He gets people fired up about it. His rhetoric

slowly gets more and more extreme, until suddenly he's promising to send in the National Guard to cities all around the

country. Those who were the frog in the proverbial pot don't realize how weird the rhetoric is

getting because they're too busy cheering on and signaling to their in-group. Then Trump starts to

believe his own rhetoric and forgets that social media isn't

society. He enacts one of the extreme policies. In this case, turning the National Guard loose to

operate against Americans. His advisors quickly tell him how brilliant his move is.

Then the polls come out, and it turns out the American people hate what he's done.

In case you missed it, support for deploying the National Guard has collapsed.

Deploying the National Guard to other cities is now widely opposed.

Last poll I saw showed it to be a losing policy by 16 points.

In a recent UGov poll, when people were asked if they would support troops being deployed to their area,

61% said they would oppose it.

Turns out, Americans, a population that has historically been ingrained with not wanting the military to police them, don't like the military policing them.

Who knew? Turns out, that's true, even when they're on their best behavior, and really just burning giant holes in the budget by spending millions to mulch and pick up trash.
