So today we're going to talk about the strike coming to an end,

and what it can teach us about politics and coverage.

Okay, so East Coast ports have been on strike.

The strike has disrupted shipping for a few days.

Just for scale, shipping worth around a couple billion dollars per day moves through the ports impacted by the strike.

A joint statement released by the United States Maritime Alliance and the International Longshoremen's Association

said that an agreement had been reached.

It says that a tentative agreement on wages was reached and basically agreed to extend the current

contract until January 15th to give the sides time to work out the other issues, like a ban on automation.

As far as the strike, it says, quote, effective immediately all current job actions will

cease and all work covered by the master contract will resume.

Biden was quick to chime in and say quote,

today's tentative agreement on a record wage and an extension of the collective bargaining process

represents critical progress towards a strong contract.

I know people will want to know the exact details of the agreement. Well, those

haven't been released yet. But for the ports to get the workers back on the

job immediately,

even though there are still outstanding issues,

it seems likely that the wage increases are pretty favorable to the workers.

It was hinted that Biden and favorable to the workers.
