Well, howdy there internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about a new DoD directive,

what it really means, and we're going to do this because we got a ton of messages from y'all

asking about it because your parents or friends are talking about it and are

concerned. I'm going to make this video so you can just share it directly to them.

First, if you don't know, I was in the military.

First is enlisted, then later as an officer.

One of the things I had to do, in fact I got coined for, was

demonstrating during inspection that we were in compliance with law, directives, and policy.

That meant I went through all the paperwork and documentation

with all the brass and inspectors looking over my shoulder

and explained why things were done a certain way to maintain

compliance with the rules. You might have heard that a new DoD directive authorizes the use of force against American citizens in support of civilian law

enforcement functions.

And that this should worry you.

The claim is being made about DoD Directive number 5240.01.

So first, DoD Directives aren't law. They can't authorize anything that isn't already in law.

Law provides the basic authority and limitations. In this case, the primary law is the Pasycomatatas Act, which has been on the books since the late 1800s.

Generally speaking, the law prohibits the military from engaging in civilian law enforcement functions.

The directive covers exceptions to that law.

It didn't create exceptions, but it governs behavior under pre-existing exceptions.

So what does the newly added language actually do?
