So today news broke of an engagement very close to the White House.

Initial reporting was plagued by bad information and conflicting reports.

What we're going to do is go through what is known,

what the likely response will be from the administration,

and provide a little reminder for everybody,

because this has the potential to spiral.

As you've probably heard or seen on the news by this point,

troops deployed to D.C. by Trump as part of a highly controversial

and legally contested campaign were attacked.

The best information right now says, and it's important to remember, this is a dynamic event where information will change.

The troops were conducting what is called a high visibility patrol.

In non-military speak, that means they were walking around for the sole purpose of being seen when they

were approached by a single suspect who opened fire. It is being described as a targeted attack.

Some reporting says the National Guard troops returned fire. Other reporting simply says there was a back and forth, and the

troops subdued the attacker. The troops are from West Virginia, and the governor initially announced

two troops had succumbed to their wounds and died. However, later, he said, quote, we are now receiving conflicting reports

about the condition of our two guard members, and will provide additional updates once we receive

more complete information. A suspect is in custody and is reportedly non-cooperative.
