Summary

After over 26 years of homeschooling our 8 kids (7 graduated), I can tell you that curriculum is important, but not as important as you might think. Today I’m sharing some myths/lies that we tend to believe about curriculum along with some truths that are important to keep in mind so that you can make wise choices for your family. Podcasts mentioned: 8 Great Smarts for Homeschoolers with Dr. Kathy Koch Why Chores are Essential Essentials in Early Education Here are a few curriculum choices our family has enjoyed over the years (not an exhaustive list!): Through 2nd grade-100 Easy Lessons to Teach Your Child to Read, Horizons math, workbooks from Costco/Walmart (I explain why in this video). 3-8th grade-Teaching Textbooks, Horizons, Notgrass American History(7th/8th gr), Math U See, Saxon (only for my math/logic minded kids), Key To Math series (if they are struggling with the basics) Learning Language Arts Through Literature (we handled science and history in an unconventional way that I describe in my books, The Unhurried Homeschooler and The Four Hour School Day) High School: Mystery of History, 101 Series (science), consumer math (If you haven't checked out my new book, The Four Hour School Day please do that!  As a 25+ year veteran homeschooling mom of 8, I share WHY you can give your kids a robust education in four hours a day or less! share with you today. But before I do that,

0:39.3

just want to throw out there. If you don't already know, I am the author of the four-hour school

day, which just came out in June, how you and your kids can thrive in the homeschool life. If you

0:48.6

haven't checked that out, please go do that. You can do it at my website, Duranda Wilson.com,

0:52.7

or you can go to Amazon or any of your

favorite booksellers. Also, I wrote the Unhurried Homestchooler a few years ago, and well over 30,000

families have enjoyed that book as well. It's a simple, mercifully short book on homeschooling,

1:08.7

again, available on my website and also available on

1:12.0

on Amazon. I also do a podcast and I just share my experience, you know, over these well over

1:19.2

two decades of homeschooling. There's a lot to share and I'm, I, my goal is to make

1:25.9

homeschooling doable because it really is more doable than we realize.

1:32.6

So let's just jump right in.

1:37.0

So when people, I'm also the host of my podcast.

1:40.7

I told you that, but I didn't tell you where to go.

1:42.5

You go to major platforms or you can go to Duranda Wilson.com. All right. So when people find out that I've homeschooled

1:50.4

all eight of our kids from the beginning with seven graduated so far, sometimes the first question

1:55.8

they ask is, what curriculum did you use? So I always kind of cringe when they say that because, I mean,

2:05.2

I know there are a lot of reasons that that's the first question that they ask, but my fear is
