So today, we're going to talk about California withholding money from the federal government.

Well, we could be heading to a very unique confrontation between the states and the federal government.

Reporting came out saying Trump was preparing to cut massive amounts

of funding to California and end all federal grants to the University of California and California State

University. While criticizing California, a White House spokesperson said, quote,

No taxpayers should be forced to fund the demise of our country.

No final decisions, however, on any potential future action by the administration have been made,

and any discussion suggesting otherwise should be considered pure speculation.

The reporting caused waves immediately on Capitol Hill.

California Representative Zoe Lofgren said, quote,

Trump is a bully. We've now heard from sources that he may be intending to cut grants to California because we didn't vote for him and were

democratically inclined. I will fight back on this. This will be immediately challenged in court.

She's the top Democrat on the Science Space and Technology Committee, which has a vested

interest in the success of California's

universities. California's governor, Gavin Newsom, took to social media after hearing what the

Trump administration was considering. He said, quote, Californians pay the bills for the federal

government. We pay over 80 billion more in taxes than we get back.

Maybe it's time to cut that off.

That number comes from a recent study analyzing the flow of money.

There's only about a dozen states that provide more funding to the federal government than they receive.
