Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about

Newsom, $25 million, California's special legislative session, and Trump. Newsom and the state

legislature returned to work today in a special session. The session's main purpose is to take some actions

to secure the state against future actions by Trump. Trump often uses California as a political

scapegoat when it comes to progressive policies. It certainly seems that there will be lengthy

legal proceedings that will probably end up setting

precedent for the relationship between the states and the federal government.

In a statement, the governor said, quote, we will work with the incoming administration, and

we want President Trump to succeed in serving all Americans.

But when there is overreach, when lives are threatened, when rights and freedoms are targeted, we will take action.

Last time Trump was in office, his policies led to California filing suits against the administration at the rate of about

30 per year.

Those legal battles cost the state about $42 million during Trump's last term.

Democratic Assembly member Jesse Gabriel introduced legislation to create a $25 million fund to pay for future legal battles

that are likely on the horizon between the state and the Trump administration.

Gabriel said, quote, while we always hope to collaborate with our federal partners, California

will be ready to vigorously defend our interests and

values from any unlawful action by the incoming Trump administration. The legislation is almost

certain to pass. The Democratic Party controls both houses and is pretty united in its desire to keep its progressive

policies intact. The governor, the state's attorney general, and the legislature are all

trying to guess how Trump will attack the state and what they can do to preventatively mitigate

any harm to its population, regulations, and so on.
