It was on this day 16 years ago, the Apple Eek released its first mobile phone, the

iPhone.

It is hard to believe. It's hard to believe how Apple transformed so much of American

life, and that's not an exaggeration.

The college in 1989, and we had on the campus Macintosh computers, and then Scully, that

weasel squeezes Steve Jobs out after Jobs had brought him in from being the Pepsi CEO. Pepsi

doesn't change the world. He makes good ads and sugar water.

So Steve Jobs, ever the innovative mind, goes over, creates the Lisa next corporation,

and I remember my wife being from India, she had friends, fellow friends who were graduate

students in the engineering school, and we used to go and visit them at the UH engineering

school, and all the teaching assistants were Indians. So we'd go over there and I'd tour

the labs and see what they were doing, and look at the lectures, and look at what was

on the walls, and they were using a next computer. Most people never see a next computer.

It was just high powered for the time. It was a thermonuclear device in the computing

world in terms of its capacity at the time. This is late 80s, early 90s. Now with Steve Jobs.

Then he goes over to Pixar, and he takes this little throwaway company that he gets

from a great filmmaker who's in the midst of a divorce, and he buys it at a garage

sell for $10 million. And what does he do? Nothing short of making. What are those called

animated films? What do you call that style of film, Ramon? Their cartoons without

calling them cartoons. What do they called? Pixar or called whatever it is animated movies.

So then I think a lot of people probably don't realize that those animated films that that

was all a Steve Jobs production. And so all that buzz, light year, and all that, and
