Summary

The mind and body are not separate entities. Maybe you walk faster when you’re angry or say something you don’t mean when you’re flustered. The more we can stay connected to both body and mind, the more we learn about ourselves. Check-in with your body as you’re moving through the world this weekend. Hi it's Andy here and welcome to Radio Headspace. We're at the end of the week and yesterday

0:19.1

I had the good fortune to have a meeting in a park. So in the absence of office space

0:24.2

these days, a couple of good friends from work we sit down and we try and do some of our

0:28.0

work in the park and obviously socially distancing and everything else. But it's actually a really

0:32.6

nice thing to do. As we were sitting there yesterday, a man walked past. I'm not going to

0:38.0

beat out the words that he was saying. It was quite strong, colourful language, but he

0:42.2

was clearly deeply upset. To such an extent he was no longer able to keep that dialogue

0:47.8

in his mind. It was being expressed through his words and to some extent his body he

0:53.1

wasn't being violent, but everyone was aware that he was deeply upset with somebody

0:57.6

who was walking away at the time. And I was thinking that's a really interesting

1:03.6

thing to be aware of in ourselves. Sort of the progression from mind to body and also

1:10.5

kind of in reverse as well. So what we were watching and what we were witnessing, although

1:14.5

it was quite shocking at the time, it's actually not that far away from where many of us

1:20.0

may go in our mind sometimes. So although something had happened and we were watching him

1:25.2

walk down the street even though he was leaving the situation behind, it was still being

1:29.6

expressed verbally. I think for a lot of us it will still be being expressed mentally

1:34.0

and the conversation will continue for a long while after. But ordinarily in our mind

1:40.3

we kind of have this sort of stuff going on and at some stage it might just be that we're

1:45.0

having a bit of an off day and something just sort of slips out. And then of course sometimes

1:49.5

it can even get to the point where it becomes to be expressed through the body as well.

1:55.0

People often ask why in monastic training, I want to say people as in my friends who

2:00.6

know that I used to be a monk will often ask why is there so much focus on mindful walking
