I got a message from Randy in Minnesota.

Randy writes, and I am quoting directly, Big Sal, I think we need to create an off ramp for

Bears fans to ease them into becoming Packer fans after the move to Indiana.

Randy, my brother, you beautiful man, because the Bears have not officially moved yet, they are just

standing at the door with their coat on, pointing at a former golf course on an old industrial landfill next to an oil refinery in Hammond, while Illinois looks for its keys.

But Randy sees where this is going, and Randy is right. So we are doing this today. Pack Nation, I am extending an olive

branch to Bears fans, the real ones, the ones who bled navy and orange to decades of bad

quarterback decisions. Rex Grossman, Jay Cutler, Mitchell Tribisky, all of them who showed up every single week,

even when the product was a disaster. Not the bandwagon people, the diehards, the suffering,

faithful. You have been abandoned. Or at least you are watching your organization seriously

consider abandoning you.

And today, Big Sal is doing something about it.

You know what this reminds me of?

A barn that has been slowly leaning for about 15 years.

Every spring, somebody looks at it, props a beam, slaps paint on the north side, and says it has got a few

good seasons left. You never fix the foundation. You never addressed the rot. You just keep telling

yourself, it is fine. And then one winter, the weight, the bad foundation. Everything deferred for too long, it starts to go.

Now there is a real decision.

Do you keep throwing money at a barn that was already compromised?

Or do you walk across the field and start on solid ground?

That is the Bears right now, and their fans have been propping that barn up
