I'm your host, Carrie Mealstein, and in this episode, we're going to talk about David.

And we're going to do so in some ways that don't fit exactly with the Come Follow Me reading schedule,

partially because we're going to go a little bit beyond what's in this reading.

They haven't skipped a lot of chapters, and so I'm going to cover at least a couple of elements

or incidents that go beyond this reading. But I'm also going to change the order just a little bit.

And let me tell you the reason for that. If you've read this story before, you'll find that the

chronology is a little bit confusing. because as we get to the end of

chapter 16, David is invited to Saul's house, his palace, to play the harp for him. And then we get to

chapter 17 where he's killing Goliath and Saul seems to be meeting him for the first time. And this

this is a little bit confusing for people. And it should be.

It's got seemingly two stories of how David met Saul. And lots of people have tried to figure

this out. I'll tell you, I have my opinion as to what's probably going on. I think that whoever

was complying this record, and remember, we've got some people who are kind of like Mormon, who are taking lots of different records and abridging them and putting them

together. And they had a couple of different accounts, and they just put them both in there. But I think

they got the chronological order wrong. So we're going to do the story the way I think that the order

should go, which is that we go through the first part of chapter 16 where David is anointed.

Then we get to chapter 17 and then we go back to the end of chapter 16.

So that's how we're going to do the story.

And if I'm wrong, then I apologize, but it's the way that makes the most sense to me.
