Hey, this is Trey.

Thank you for joining us for a Tuesday edition of our podcast. Last Tuesday night was not a good night for Republicans as my guest. This weekend, Guy Benson, very smart, capable, nice man, by the way, said it is important to neither over nor under-analyze

off-cycle elections. But we do have to accurately analyze what happened and why. Virginia is blue.

0:51.4

Republicans can win statewide there sometimes, but it's hard. There are bright red pockets

0:58.2

of red in southern Virginia, but the D.C. outskirts have made that state a tough one for Republicans.

1:05.6

So I was not surprised Abigail Spanberger won, but I was surprised at the margin of victory and very

1:14.2

surprised the Commonwealth elected Jay Jones as the Attorney General. What Jay Jones said is

1:21.4

disqualifying for any elected office, much less won in law enforcement, but the voters chose him anyway. New Jersey

But, but what about Georgia? Two Democrats won statewide. That state is not blue. Trump won it. Brian Kemp has won it overwhelmingly. So what happened Tuesday?

2:08.4

Pennsylvania is a crucial state for Republicans to win the electoral college. Trump won and the GOP picked up a Senate seat there just last year.

2:19.2

But Tuesday, the statewide races, which were for Supreme Court, which is important, went Democrat, and the numbers were huge.

2:30.7

Off-year elections favor the party out of power.

2:34.2

Their voters are upset.

2:36.0

They feel disempowered.

2:38.5

They're motivated.

2:40.6

So I view last Tuesday night as something tantamount to a mock trial.

2:47.3

And that's where prosecutors would impanel a jury. we'd go get college kids or we'd get folks off

2:54.7

the street and we would try our case to a mock jury to see what resonated and what did not

3:03.0

because what resonates with lawyers or cops does not always resonate with folks that are going to be on the jury.

3:11.2

So you would have a mock trial.

3:13.1

The real trial, politically speaking, is coming next November.
