Now this week, I want it known that this was very much John O'Farrell's choice of topic this week.

It's an interesting choice of topic and it's one that I'm

looking forward to talking about John, but you did just text me and say, can we please talk about

lesbian pirates? Look, I think this is a very important historical subject. It's not at all a cheap

attempt to get hits, to get attention. This is, these are, you know, when you, the thing about the discipline of history is to stick to verifiable facts.

Even if it's not as interesting, even if the narrative doesn't appeal as a complicated, unexciting reality.

The historical truth is what we stick to.

So we don't try and make things more glamorous or titillating just to get more attention for ourselves.

So anyway, this week we're doing lesbian pirates.

Lesbian pirates.

Because we are.

Never mind the fact, John, that there is zero substantial evidence that these two women we're

going to be talking about were gay lovers.

No evidence at all.

We could have just called it women pirates, John, couldn't we?

How many hit this is that going to be?

Let's face it, Angela. That's going to be fewer downloads, if we're honest.
