In 2012, 27-year-old Matthew Lentry was in most ways a pretty typical young Frenchman.

He lived near Paris with his roommate, son collocataire.

He had a job and a fun group of friends.

Matthew especially loved the bonding that took place when they all got together in the

evenings over glasses of beer.

My collocataire and I had a good friend group. We loved to meet for the

past and we drank beer all day. I had discovered this at university.

The beer met people.

Matthew had a good, busy life. But he knew one big thing was missing.

He felt his work and his friends were keeping him from something that had always been

important to him. Religion and prayer.

In the past, I had a dilemma. On one side, there was what I had and on the other, there was what I wanted to be.

I wanted to give more time to my religion and prayer.

It was like if my professional life, my personal life and my spiritual life were always

in contradiction.

That summer, Matthew made a choice that was unthinkable to most of his friends. But it was

something he'd been considering for years.

I wanted more prayers in my life. So I decided to choose a new life and to go live

in a religious community.

On June 20th, Matthew's parents and four friends drove him to a monastery in Normandy,

La Bayille de San Vendray. And then, they left him there.
