Today, Florida State begins the search for its next head basketball coach for the men's basketball program.

As Leonard Hamilton has submitted his resignation, he will step down from his position as head coach of Florida State,

which he's had for nearly a quarter of a century at the end of this season.

And Ira, you were at the forefront of the reporting on this for us at Warchant

you called me when we're on the live stream in the Jeff Cameron show earlier today just to kind

set the groundwork of here's what it's sounding like I'd love to get your perspective on how today

unfolded and then your thoughts on somebody you've covered for a long long time here in

Tallahassee. Yeah you you know, I think the,

this, the, you know, machinations of all this has probably been going on for a year or more.

You know, I, you know, talking to people, you know, towards the end of last season, there were

questions, you know, we all had questions about whether or not Leonard Hamilton will get

his contract extension or would he go into his final

season just riding out the end of his contract because that's not normal. That's not usually

what happens in college sports. But, you know, and the pressure I got at that time was, yeah,

you know, he is going to get to coach this last year if he's willing to. I think they, you know,

they were not going to give him an extension.

But if you want to coach out the rest of his contract and see what happens, they would do that.

I think the belief on the administration and the program was this would be Leonard Hamilton's last year.

But I always thought that there was a door slightly open.
