Hi, I'm Anne-Marie, and as you know, this Lent season, we are working through some of the miracles of Jesus shared with us across the gospel accounts.

We're looking at how each of these miracles points us to the greatest of all miracles, which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

The miracle of Jesus that we're focused on today is found in Luke chapter 4, verses 33 through 36, and also in

Mark chapter 1, verse 23 and 24. I'll read from Luke first. And in the synagogue, there was a man

who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, ha, what have you

to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?

Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God. But Jesus rebuked him,

saying, be silent and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst,

he came out of him, having done him no harm. And they were all amazed and said to one another,

what is this word? For with authority and power, he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.

And in Mark, it says, and immediately there was in this synagogue a man with an unclean spirit,

and he cried out, what have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us?

I know who you are, the Holy One of God.

Before we dive into the details of this miracle, let's back up a bit to look at the context.

This miracle occurs at the start of Jesus' ministry.

In fact, it's one of the first healings accounted for in both the Gospels of Mark and Luke.

Just a few verses earlier in Luke 416, Jesus was actually in another synagogue in his hometown of Nazareth.
