Donald Trump won the 2024 election. He won the electoral college. He won the popular vote.

Not by much, but he won the popular vote. It was a decisive victory. Let's just be honest. No question about that. The question that I really have,

and a lot of other Americans who believe in democracy, who are concerned about democracy,

the question they're now asking is, where does the Democratic Party go from here? Where do they go? Folks from all

sides of the ideological spectrum have offered some ideas. Some say the party should abandon, quote

unquote, wokeness. Need to double down on populist messaging to win back the working class.

Others say the party doesn't really need many changes at all,

that it was merely that it was global inflation,

it was the cost of eggs at St. Kamala Harris's campaign.

And then there are those who say that the Democratic brand is utterly dead

and that that brand can never recover.

This debate is playing out in real time right now because candidates are tossing their

hats into the ring to be the next DNC chair.

What does the DNC chair even do, right?

Well, the chair is the Democratic National Committee's top executive.

The job is part cheerleader, it's part fundraiser,

part recruiter, and part spokesperson. It's a very visible role when a party no longer occupies

the White House when it's no longer in power, really, since the president is the de facto leader

of his own party. This person will effectively become the top Democrat in the country, even if they

don't actually serve in the government, right? They're going to be a big spokesperson for the party.
