Some people love to insult American food. The food of the old world, they say, is more classy, more fine dining.

Stretching nearly 2,000 miles along the eastern United States,

the Appalachian Mountains have given birth to some of the most colorful folklore in America.

And while its settlers did originally take inspiration from the many early Scots and Irishmen
