0:00.0	Sometimes people grow up, you hear people that deconstruct, they'll say, like, I grew up in a very legalistic environment.

0:05.9	That word, legalism, isn't even in the Bible.
0:09.6	So, but it exists.
0:10.9	It's something.
0:11.8	A working definition, you know, just as I reflect, is I think a heart that is seeking to earn favor with God by obedience to the law,
0:21.5	or a heart that is driven by wanting to maintain favor with God
0:25.9	by obedience to the law.
0:27.3	And when you look at legalism in its core,
0:29.7	it is a self-reliance to better ourselves.
0:34.1	And I think that's where so many people fall into the legalistic trap
0:37.2	is legalism feels like outside external commands bearing down on a person who doesn't want to obey them.
0:46.1	You know, thou shalt not do everything you want to do. And so you're just perpetually frustrated.
0:51.7	Everything I want to do, I can't. And so you're trying to get up out from under this law.
0:57.0	A heart that's obedient that's been transformed
1:00.0	is a heart that sees the goodness of those commands
1:02.0	and says, no, I want that because God wants that.
1:05.0	I want what God wants.
1:06.0	I want to obey.
1:07.0	I want to follow because I see the good,
1:09.0	because I trust the good God,
1:10.8	giving me those commands.
