Summary

What happens when religion becomes more about rules than relationship? In Matthew 12, Jesus confronts the Pharisees and exposes how legalism can distort the heart of God. Through encounters with the Pharisees, healing on the Sabbath, and powerful teaching about grace, Jesus shows us that religion without Him only leads to pride, shame, and exhaustion. The gospel is not about earning God’s love through performance. It’s about receiving the mercy and freedom that Jesus already paid for on the cross. Jesus did not come to heap burdens on people. He came to bring rest, healing, freedom, and new life. And I want to say Happy Mother's Day weekend. Way to go, Mom. Let's get up for the Mamas. We wouldn't be here without you. You're the best. Praise God. Now, I don't really line up the text with Hallmark Weekends. In fact, the last text we're going to read is Jesus' mom, brothers, and sisters come try to stop him preaching.
