0:00.0 | Hi, it's Sarah Isger. This is going to be different. We've got a special episode for the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, which of course took place July 1st, 3rd, and 1863. |
0:14.0 | It's a collection of recordings that I made on my phone from the road during these six circuits legal eagles adventure. That means the audio might be rough at some points. |
0:25.0 | Why do I personally care about this? One, I've always been fascinated with Gettysburg. I went for the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg address back 10 years ago. |
0:37.0 | But also, this trip was more than just about Gettysburg. It was about what the judiciary is, what are things of itself, and that's why this will be more of a highlight of Judge Alan Norris, who leads the legal eagles trip. |
0:52.0 | And just a cool guy who I thought you all should get to know. If you like this episode and you want us to do more many documentaries like this, consider becoming a member of the dispatch. We want to do a lot more of them and your support lets us do it. But without further ado, here it is, the special legal eagles episode. |
1:15.0 | Ready? |
1:17.0 | I was born ready. |
1:22.0 | Welcome to a special episode of advisory opinions. I'm Sarah Isgurr. |
1:38.0 | A legal eagles exclusive. |
1:42.0 | Legal eagles, of course, is the name of the six circuits trip to Gettysburg. To be clear, this isn't a military history podcast on Gettysburg and we aren't going to debate the South's legal case for secession. |
1:55.0 | Instead, this is the story of how three dozen lawyers ended up in the fields of Gettysburg through rain and ticks. To understand the answer to that question, you need to get to know six circuit judge Alan Norris. |
2:08.0 | First time I remember going to Gettysburg, I'd have been probably ten years old and my family drove over here in my dad's 1936. |
2:20.0 | So if I was ten, it would be near the end of the war. Second one, not the first one. |
2:29.0 | The only thing I remember about it was that when we hired a guide, he stood outside on the running board. |
2:40.0 | And every time we would come to a stone wall, he would say, made by the farmer used by the soldier. And my dad kept saying that, I don't remember how many years after that. |
2:58.0 | That was nearly 80 years ago. Judge Norris doesn't look 87. He certainly doesn't act it. |
3:04.0 | And this is keeping my eye on that kid myself. This is therapeutic. Yeah, love it. |
3:10.0 | But when it comes to legal eagles for three days, Judge Norris isn't messing around. There's homework. |
3:16.0 | Look, it is no fun guiding someone on a battlefield who doesn't know anything. |
3:25.0 | So all attendees are required, as you know, to read a book and I give them several suggestions. |
3:34.0 | Ranging and pagerlings. One is 200 pages. Well, there's five. Well, you know, some do both. Believe it or not. |
3:44.0 | I did see I did meet a couple who did both those people don't have enough work and chambers. |
