UK announced that Lee Anderson, who'd recently lost the Conservative whip, was defecting to their

party, making it their first MP in Parliament. Just an hour later, I was at the Institute for

Government Think Tank where they were releasing a big report about how you could reform Number 10 Downing Street and Whitehall and the Treasury to make it work better for the country.

And this report was introduced by Sir John Major and Gordon Brown and was watched by loads of

former senior civil servants and the great and the good.

And for me, that was just a perfect encapsulation of what's happening here with politics. You had you with the kind of the insurgents saying, we need

radical change, people are angry, we're going to shape things up. And then there was me sat watching,

well, basically the establishment saying, here are some changes we could make. And for me,

it was just almost like Christopher Nolan had directed British politics for the day. There you are.
