In this special episode of The Deep End, Lecrae sits down with two of his closest friends and longtime collaborators — Trip Lee and Tedashii — for an honest, funny, and deeply reflective conversation about faith, friendship, calling, and the wild journey that brought them here.

They rewind the tape on the early days of 116, talk about what it was really like building something that would later shape an entire movement, and reflect on what they didn't understand at the time — about leadership, influence, pressure, and God's timing.

Along the way, they unpack:

  • How none of this was part of a master plan — and why that matters
  • The tension between calling and control
  • What leadership looks like when you don't actually want to be "the leader"
  • How God used imperfect people, imperfect theology, and imperfect moments to do something lasting
  • Why the impact often becomes clear only in the rearview mirror

There are serious moments. There are nostalgic moments. There are hilarious stories (including tour chaos, bad pranks, and arguments that started because everyone was tired and hungry). But underneath it all is a deeper question:

What does it look like to stay faithful over decades — not just seasons?

This episode isn't just about music. It's about friendship that lasts, calling that matures, and a faith that grows deeper as it gets tested by real life.

Whether you've followed these guys since the early 116 days or you're meeting them for the first time, this conversation is a reminder that God rarely writes straight lines — but He does write meaningful stories.

I this is a special one for me. This is a special one for me because, you know, rarely is this podcast a place where it is both fun and informative and nostalgic and, you know, all of the things. It usually fits in one category. However, the reason why I'm

0:22.7

able to walk in all those different worlds is because I've been kind of cut from that cloth. And

0:28.0

there are many others cut from that cloth. Well, I won't say many. There are a few others cut from

0:33.3

that cloth, but two of them I have here today, two of probably of the most influential people that um i've had around in terms of my music career and my life as a believer for the last two decades which is crazy because they both of them are only 25 uh but uh man, I have both author, creative artist, innovator theologian, Tripp Lee in the building.

1:06.8

And I have my brother who is as well

1:10.9

a incredibly gifted writer

1:13.8

communicator public speaker

1:16.3

probably one of the best rappers

1:18.4

out of the state of Texas

1:20.5

to dashi in the building as well

1:23.5

so I shouldn't call you a rapper

1:25.3

I should call your artist because you know you do all kinds of stuff. That's true.

1:28.3

You'll be singing in a whole nine.

1:29.3

But yeah man, it's kind of like, this is almost kind of weird.

1:33.3

Yeah.

1:34.3

Like with both of y'all being here because usually I'm sitting in front of somebody and I'm like,

1:39.3

yo, what do I want to know?

1:42.3

Yeah, yeah.

1:43.3

But with y'all, it's's like what don't I know yeah you know what I'm

1:46.6

saying so it's kind of interesting but except with Tadashi every time I talk to that I learned something new

1:51.5

about his life that's true because Tadashi is the most interested man in the world that is

1:56.3

I'm not joking it could be anything it could be driving past some people doing some street work he'd oh, man, I remember when I used to operate a jackhammer for a summer. It's like, why did you do that? No facts. It's always something like that. No facts. This is my life. That is very true. This man worked in a prison. This man was an ordained minister. Wasn't he in like a rock band? A rock rap band? Rap chorus. Why you say wasn't he like I'm not here? Was it he? No, no, no, no. Yeah, that's true, though. That's true. Yeah. Out of all of us, though, he is the only one that looks 25. No, that brother, yeah. Don't age.
