Summary

Low dosing and high dosing with herbal medicine are two practices as old as herbalism itself.

So which one is better, and which should you use in your practice? As you will see, there are unique benefits attributed to both, as well as circumstances where one may be favored over the other. In this week's episode you'll learn:

-Low dosing and high dosing are two valid and well practiced methods in herbalism.

-Low dosing focuses on subtly shifting the vital body by using 1-3 drops of herbal medicine.

-High dosing focuses on generating a physiological response in the body by using higher quantities of herbal medicine, such as 2-5ml

-The goal of both is to help the body achieve a state of balance and wellbeing. -Although you can choose to work solely with one method, both can be employed to achieve a holistic practice with wonderful results.

Welcome to the plant path, your window into the world of herbal medicine, with Saja and Whitney Popham, founders of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism.

0:23.6

Hey there everybody, Sagea Popham here, founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism.

0:29.6

And in this week's episode, I'm going to be talking a little bit about the difference in dosage of herbal medicine. This is a question I get a lot.

0:41.8

And specifically, I got a question recently around really what drop dosing is and what some of

0:49.9

the main differences are between, you know, what happens when you take an herbal medicine in

0:55.9

one to three drop doses versus, you know, maybe a five milliliter dose. And, you know, what we

1:03.2

really see here is a couple different schools of thought and approaches to practicing herbalism.

1:08.5

And so this week's post, I'm talking about some of those differences and sharing,

1:13.5

I think, to me, are some of the benefits and some of the downsides of both approaches and why

1:21.4

neither one is necessarily wrong, better, or worse, just different in their approach. So I hope you enjoy

1:30.0

my discussion this week on herbal dosage. From, I hope I'm saying it right, Lail or Lyle,

1:37.8

is asking, what does drop dosage mean? Yeah, great question. So drop dosage means,

1:49.2

um, essentially what it says. It's a, it's a term used to indicate very low doses of

1:58.1

medicinal plants, specifically in tincture form. Usually when someone is saying a drop dosage,

2:07.2

they're usually talking about tinctures. Sometimes they'll be talking about flower essences.

2:13.4

But drop dosage usually we're talking about one to three drops as a dose as compared to what I would

2:23.5

consider like a moderately sized dose being maybe 15 to 30 drops.

2:29.6

And then moving up into higher doses, which I would say is between two to five milliliters,

2:38.0

which, you know, in a standard tincture bottle, when you squeeze the eyedropper and suck up as much tincture

2:43.8

as you can get, usually like that squirt amount is about 30 drops. So, or a mill. And so,

2:54.2

you know, to me, a high dose is usually like two squirts up to five squirts or five mils per dose. And, you know, this question really digs into

3:02.4

different approaches to practicing herbalism, right? You've got low-dose school, you've got high-dose school,
