Hi, I'm Edwards Three, and welcome to all things Catholic. I'm your host

Edwards three here on location on pilgrimage in the Holy City of Rome at

the Principal Church of Rome.

Do you know what is the number one church in Rome,

the church that describes itself as the head and mistress of all the churches in the city of Rome and all the churches around the

world, some of you might say, oh, St. Peter's Basilica, where the Vatican is. But that is not

the right answer. It's St. John Lateran. St. John Laterin is the church that the

popes originally resided in. It was the land that was given to the Catholic

Church by Constantine after Constantine's conversion. This is where the cathedral is of the popes. This is where the

pop's resided all the way up until the 1300s and then they moved to France and they came back

and then began residing over at St. Peter's. But to this day the Pope, Pope Francis, comes to this church as his cathedral. This is where his chair is. This is where I, when I was a student here, I came and went to mass on Holy Thursday with the

Pope and the Pope does it at his cathedral, John Paul II, St. John Paul II I got like

third row seats it was amazing I was right really close got to see him

wash people's feet it was awesome this is the principal church in the city of

Rome and all the world but what I want to take a look at today is I want to consider what

churches like the latter and tell us about sacred scripture. As we've seen on this

pilgrimage throughout Rome we've been looking at many of the beautiful

churches, different kinds of styles, but they are often telling us about theology in the stone and

the stained glass and the statues, and that's what we're going to see here in the Church of the Lateran.

You know when it comes to Sacred Scripture, I don't know about you, but many times when I hear about

the Old Testament, I talk to lay people, Catholic lay people, and they tell me,

like they don't really get into the Old Testament.
