Those of you who listen to this podcast a lot know that I preach quarter mile capability

because in the backcountry many times if you can't shoot to about a quarter mile that's

440 yards I roughly think of it as 450.

But if you can't shoot to at least 400 yards, you're going to miss some very, very good

opportunities. Clean ethical shot opportunities on big

animals that you wouldn't have to miss if you just put in the time to learn really good riflemanship skills.

So that's one thing that I kind of preach.

That's my soapbox, right?

I had a really interesting listener's question about shooting past that after my last episode on the

308 where I mentioned that one of my old recommendations against the 308 comes from the fact that it kind of runs out of steam

there around like quarter mile mark and for those that want to shoot further there are

better options so this listener wrote in and he said, man I'd love to hear about

polishing those skills. Those skills passed a quarter mile. Can you do an episode on that? So I got to thinking about it and I

finally responded to him and I said I can you bet that sounds like a good topic I

think I'm going to have to bring you in an expert and that's what I've done here today. On the line with me I've got a
