Summary

Do you want to learn how to love like the Bible teaches? Bible-based love, indeed any Bible-based relationships, can be attained if we understand what the Bible says about love. Loving someone rightly is difficult because selfish motives often seep into even our closest relationships. In this episode, Fr. Mike Schmitz connects the Old and New Testaments, using the story of the Fall in Genesis to show how, despite our selfish motives, we are still made for love. He shows how the Fall was not a curse from God but a remedy for humanity’s broken idea of love. Because Adam and Eve — and subsequently, each one of us — chose self-preservation over self-gift and wanted pleasure apart from sacrifice, God had to teach us that love costs something. He provided a remedy and a Redeemer so we could learn to be a gift from him to others.

0:06.9	So one of the things when it comes to love, I mentioned this in the video previously about
0:12.5	when God made humanity in place us in the Garden, right?
0:15.5	So the original story of creation that he, it seems according to the Bible that we're
0:20.0	made for three things for for leisure, for labor and for love.
0:23.8	But we experience brokenness and all those areas.
0:26.1	When it comes to that brokenness, if you know how the story goes, here's the story.
0:29.9	God, who's good, who makes the world good and everything he sees is, this is so good,
0:34.2	this is very good.
0:35.2	It makes humanity, makes man a woman and looks at them very good.
0:39.4	This is so good.
0:41.2	Made for love.
0:42.2	And yet we know that the story of the Bible doesn't end with chapter 2 of Genesis.
0:46.8	It goes into chapter 3 and chapter 3 talks about, you know, the servant was the most
0:50.1	clenching of all the animals that God made.
0:52.4	So it talks about the fall, right?
0:54.5	Now, there's something really interesting in this.
0:58.0	That when Adam and Eve fall, there's these consequences, these curses.
1:04.8	There's actually a curse of the serpent, right?
1:06.4	So the Lord God looks at the serpent and says, you know, cursed are you, basically.
1:11.4	And then it turns to the woman and he says to the woman, he says, this is the following.
