Psalm chapter 72 verses 1 through 4.

Give the king your justice, oh God, and your righteousness to the Royal Son. May he judge your people with righteousness

and your poor with justice. Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people and the hills in righteousness.

May he defend the cause of the poor of the people.

Give deliverance to the children of the needy and crush the oppressor. I want you to get a picture of what this

Psalm is all about. It's a prayer for the king among God's people to lead with justice and righteousness.

You hear those words over and over again and just those four verses.

Give the king your justice, your righteousness to him.

May he judge your people with righteousness.

You're poor with justice.

Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people in righteousness.

The whole picture is a desire for godly leadership in a nation, for right just leadership of people,

and specifically on behalf of the poor and the needy and the oppressed.

This is a prayer, it's a longing for leaders who will not oppress the needy but who will help the oppressed who will work on

behalf of the poor.

You see it all throughout the Psalm.

Later in verse 12, for he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and

him who has no helper, he has pity on the weak in the needy and saves the lives

of the needy from oppression and violence he

redeems their life here is a leader who works on behalf of those in need.

And so when we read this in Psalm 72,
