Well, so my first breakaway on a Tuesday night, my first Tuesday night as the executive director

of breakway was on August 30, 2016. And what I want to do is I just want to give you a behind

the scenes look at what the 24 hours leading up to my first Tuesday night as the executive

director looked like, okay? Just a few days before actually the 24 hours leading up to my first Tuesday night as the executive director looked like.

Okay, just a few days before, actually, the 24 hours leading up to my first breakway.

I was with my staff, and my staff asked me if I wanted to have bomb dogs at breakway.

And when they said that, honestly, the thought that popped into my mind was I was like,

what are bomb dogs?

Is that like a food truck? And like their, like, specialty item is called bomb dogs. And they're like, no. They're dogs that actually sniff bombs. Do you want those at breakaway? And I was like, okay, I just stepped into a position that's on a level where things have to be thought about that I've just not thought about before. And so that was a few days before.

And then we got to within 24 hours of the first breakway and our crew was setting up Reed Arena

on the Monday before the Tuesday. And so I went up there and they were setting up the stage

and they were putting it in the middle of the arena.

They were setting it up in the round and the plan, the expectation, we were expecting about

10,000 students to show up.

And so when I saw that massive stage being set up, the honest, I'm being honest, the thought that went into my mind was,

oh my gosh, they are setting up that stage for me to speak on it to 10,000 people. And some of y'all

are like, that sounds amazing. I want to speak to 10,000 people. Let me just tell you, the only

cool thing about speaking to 10,000 people is you get to say I spoke to 10,000 people.

Otherwise, it is terrifying. Completely terrifying. And so that was on the Monday before and then on Tuesday morning of August 30th, I woke up and the battalion put me on their front page.
