Summary

In this listener-submitted Q&A episode, I tackle two questions that touch on resilience, leadership, and the martial art that has made an impact on countless lives. The Aloha Roll jiu jitsu academy was devastated by the fires in Lahaina, what does it mean for one's mental and physical health, and how would it feel to lose such an integral part of oneself?

Then, for all the service members and aspiring leaders out there, Andy shares his wealth of experience on leadership. Hear from someone who's been in the shoes of both a leader and a subordinate, and glean insights on how to be the leader everyone wants to work with. Whether you’re chasing your next promotion, or facing life’s challenging fires, this episode has something for you.

We're going to dive into some Q&A have three questions a day. They run the gambit a little bit.

1:48.0

So let's just get right into it question number one. I learned a lot of the things I've learned a lot from the things you and the people you've had on your show say and they always make me think about how I can live life to the fullest and be a better version of myself.

2:06.0

First off, that's amazing. There's no question in there. It's a statement from somebody else.

2:12.0

I've said this before on the podcast. If I if you had given me 10 years ago, if you'd give me a piece of paper and an unlimited amount of time to write down things that I thought that I would potentially do in my life versus things that I thought I would never do in my life or have no interest in.

2:28.0

Podcasting would have been on the latter category. I never thought it was something that I was going to do. It was never something that I thought of pursuing.

2:36.0

I'm looking back at it now. I think we're somewhere between the six to seven year mark of doing this. It is the most rewarding thing that I do.

2:44.0

I learn about myself. I question the depths of my own beliefs on certain issues and explore the limits of those beliefs often with other guests.

2:58.0

For people who have asked me how I pick my guests, it's purely from a perspective of whether or not I think the conversation would be interesting. I received a few emails this morning, some specialists in the AI world and their application to health, a country music artist, and someone whose sister was in the Marine Corps. It sounds like a total badass.

3:18.0

I said yes to all three or at least try to facilitate booking all three of them because I think it would be interesting and I think that I have something that I can learn and I think that there is something that other people can learn now to get to my incredibly long-winded point.

3:34.0

Emails like this and realizing that people have benefited or gained in whatever metric that they would apply that to in their personal or professional life or just as a human being is more rewarding than honestly I think anything else that I have done professionally.
