Welcome to Strangehors from KCW and Radiotopia. I'm Leah Tau. And today you're going to hear a very intense conversation between me and Eugene who voted for Donald Trump. I'm sure it's going to be provocative and crazy making at times to listen to. But if I may say so

myself, I also think and hope that it'll be a sharp, satisfying, highly entertaining boxing match

where all of you on both sides will take turns going, ha ha! Take that! Kabo! As Eugene and I take turns, lambing punches, because this is the addition of Trumpland, where the gloves come off.

So, I urge you to listen and then join the conversation. And if you're thinking, oh no, not another boring political blather on,

I think it'll be anything but that.

And I kind of want to just get started so you can hear for yourselves.

But let me just tell you a tiny bit about Eugene that you need to know.

He wrote to me and said,

I'm a millennial living in New York City, and I voted for Trump.

His family is Jewish and immigrated to the U.S. from Ukraine.

His grandfather was a Holocaust survivor, and his dad died when his mom was pregnant with Eugene and his twin brother.

They moved to America when the boys were two, Eugene and his twin brother with their mom and her dad, the Holocaust survivor. Eugene's mom worked her way up from being an ER register to being a senior VP at a hospital,

and Eugene has lived his whole life in New York City, growing up mostly in Brooklyn, later Staten Island,

and these days he lives in Astoria, in Queens, with his wife who's French

and grew up in Paris.

The other thing you need to know is that we taped this interview more than a month ago

before the passing of the American Healthcare Act and before the firing of James Comey,

but even so, I think you'll find our conversation highly apropos of the things that are happening

right now.

The problem that I think a lot of people like me have now,

where it's like this feels devastating beyond the normal liberal conservative, right?
