Ladies and gentlemen at the top of this week's program, I'm going to talk a little bit.

I'm going to talk a little bit about New Orleans, as I sometimes do.

You may have heard the program a couple weeks ago where I featured a reporter here in New Orleans

who came up with what I thought was a fairly striking and shocking and frightening story

about the Corps of Engineers discovering that the metal parts of the new expensive system supposed to be protecting New Orleans from hurricanes and floods has, after only about half a dozen years in use, started corroding and rusting because they used the wrong kind of steel, and they didn't cover these steel pieces with the

normally used anti-corrosive chemicals.

Anyway, I put that story on this program, hoping that I would help noise it around the country,

and I'm pleased to report that CNN, which has a four-part series on New Orleans,

showing right now, totally ignored it.

But on a more pleasant subject, a week or so ago, I and a lot of my friends thought, ah, autumn is here.

Those breezes that I associated with autumn were present.

It was, I think it was we used to call it Indian summer.

We can't do that anymore.

I think it's too close to the term sort of out of use now, but certainly when I was growing up it was in use.
