I've talked to you before about the problem with polls in an article published this week in

naked capitalism.com.

We learned that there's a new kind of polling that's sort of taken over. Traditional polling, which relies on response from a randomly selective group that's supposed to represent the entire population. That's the

gold standard according to Stanford political scientist John Krosnick but it's

become harder as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago to reach people on the phone response rates have plummeted down to 2%

And those surveys have grown exponentially more expensive to run, you know, the Dallas.

Meanwhile, cheaper, less accurate online polls have proliferated, including polls where people are

paid to respond. These are called so-called opt-in polls. People are

recruited online to take surveys. According to a recent analysis by the nonprofit Pew Research Center, such polls are plagued

by, quote, bogus respondents, unquote, who answer questions disingenuously for fun, or get through the survey as quickly

as possible to earn their money. So yeah, believe the polls or believe in Ra.
