Ladies and gentlemen, Dr. Bob B, from University of California at Berkeley once said that there are no such things as pure natural disaster, very few such things as pure natural disaster.

He said it in the context of our discussion about what the nation calls Katrina, the flooding of New Orleans in 2005,

pointing out that it had huge human fingerprints all over it.

I'm reminded of that, of course, in the last couple of weeks with, first of all, the murderous rampage here in New Orleans on Bourbon Street, which as we discussed, we, as I discussed here last week, involved the timing of the replacement of the bollards, which keep automobiles from driving on bourbon street.

The timing was set to be ready for the Super Bowl, ignoring the fact that before that game came

the Sugar Bowl and New Year's Eve, for which the bollards, as you know why now, were not ready. And then there, of course,

is this week. The human fingerprints angle to the spectacularly disastrous fires in Los Angeles and Southern California.

The fingerprints in question involve the ability of the Los Angeles Fire, Los Angeles City

Fire Department to be prepared for such a huge disaster.

The, as you I'm sure know by now, the LA fire chief went kind of ballistic on Friday,

criticizing the mayor for lack of funding to have the fire department sufficiently prepared for something as massive as

what has occurred. They seem to have made up, or at least they seem to have agreed to pretend

to make up. The mayor in question, Karen Bass, started the week of human frailty, let's say, with a press conference on Thursday,

in which she made the following announcement.

This is a big, but make no mistake, Los Angeles will rebuild stronger than ever. Right now, if you need help, emergency

information, resources, and shelter is available. All of this can be found at URL. Los Angeles,

together is how we will get through this. I'm still looking for information at URL. It's two days later.

That was a big. Another thought occurred to me. I'm recording this program a little bit in advance,

so I'm not going to be discussing latest developments out of the fire situation.
