every single week to the players and the stories that help tell the legends and mythology

of the game of baseball and how it has been shaped and changed over the years. I am so glad you're

here to join me today. If you remember last week,

we talked about Kenley Jansen as he approaches a big milestone in his career, trying to get to

400 saves in his career. And I thought, since we talked about him, maybe we visit the actual

the goat reliever, the best of all time. And that's Mariana Rivera. As an

angsty teenager growing up in the late 90s, early 2000s, I admittedly spent a lot of time doing two

things, playing Dungeons and Dragons and listening to Metallica, usually at the same time.

Ender Sandman was the highlight of their black album and probably their most

recognizable work from that time period. And as a nerdy kid dreaming of fighting nightmares and

monsters and actually probably at times the actual Sandman, it served as the perfect backdrop for my friends and I's fantasy shenanigans.

But as a passionate baseball fan during that time period, when your team played the New York Yankees,

enter Sandman meant something entirely different.

Namely, it meant that the game was over.
