That's a passage from the end of October, a new novel by the journalist Lawrence Wright,

about a worldwide pandemic emanating from Asia that causes mass misery and death,

disrupting the economies and the social structures of the most advanced countries on earth.

Wright wrote the novel before COVID-19, but his book on Cannelly and Eurally anticipates almost

everything we are now living through, from social distancing and quarantines to the despair and fears

of an American public that doesn't know who to trust. We'll talk to Wright about how he came to
