| 0:30.0 | So, take care, I guess, before you go outside. Good news is it will be over soon, probably tomorrow. Welcome back to the show. Glad you're here today. 855-839-1210 is over 200 wildfires rage in Canada on Twitter at Rich Zeeoli. But in Philadelphia, we have crime raging every single day in this city. And we had an incident happen over the weekend. That was just truly heartbreaking. |
| 1:00.0 | Here to talk about it with us, Ben Manis, he is an expert in security and criminal justice reform. He has served as a federal and municipal law enforcement officer and was the former Director Office of Investigations with the American Bureau of Internal Medicine. Ben, thanks for joining me today. |
| 1:30.0 | Thank you for this question of a culture in Philadelphia. Before I get into your piece, I think it would be good for people to know a little bit of the context of what happened last week over the weekend and all the gritty details of it. |
| 1:44.0 | Absolutely. So, for roughly eight years now, the city has been very relaxed as it approaches illegal, vehicle gatherings. And we've known it more commonly as these ATV and dirt bite takeovers that have just been rampaging our streets since pretty much the end of the matter of administration beginning, Kennedy administration. |
| 2:06.0 | And it was always that hands off approach that metastasized like a cancer when Danielle outlaw was appointed commissioner because she not only extended the no chase policy on these vehicles, but told them not to stop these vehicles because God forbid one of them falls off the bike and gets hurt running from the police as they illegally take over the streets. |
| 2:30.0 | So, what we're seeing now is the issue has extended to these vehicle side shows. And this has really been prevalent since 2021, 2022. Both years I wrote stories about it because there have been some extremely embarrassing videos where police cars were surrounded and attacked in the middle of these side shows. |
| 2:53.0 | And that's what happened over the weekend when a massive stream of side shows, not just one, but three, disparate locations, one at Frankfurt in common, right in the heart of Mayfair, one all the way in Bustleton and Stillmont on the Bucks County border up by Sumerton. |
| 3:11.0 | And the last one being a takeover, a stuff I 95 right under the pens landing bypass. |
| 3:19.0 | So, they actually took over a busy interstate highway in the middle of the night when cars are flying through that area. So, it's extremely dangerous. |
| 3:29.0 | And to give you an idea of just how the city was caught flat footed on this issue, there were 300 spectators at each of these events. |
| 3:39.0 | So, this was something that was obviously coordinated and telegraphed through social media because 300 people don't just magically show up in one place at one time. |
| 3:49.0 | And in this particular circumstance at 324 in the morning, the state troopers obviously were dispatched to location and a couple of them showed up. They don't roll in big numbers like the city police. |
| 4:01.0 | And when they ordered this young man, 18 year old Christopher Alligree, who came from Gwen's Mills, Deliver County with a Audi S4. |
| 4:14.0 | So, this is an 18 year old with a $50,000 car, souped up to the gills. |
| 4:20.0 | They ordered him out of the car. He didn't respond. He didn't, you know, he didn't obey those orders and when he'd done the motor, |
| 4:29.0 | but the trooper said he'd done the motor toward the officers and he hit one of the troopers and the other one fired one shot and killed him. |
| 4:37.0 | So, now of course there's outrage. The media is portraying Alligree as an 18 year old angel who's never been in trouble before even though now we have court records showing he was in this very same year. |
| 4:51.0 | The last six months arrested for speeding more than 35 miles over the speed limit in that souped up out of the S4. |
| 4:59.0 | So, yeah, we're in a circumstance right now where there's a confidence of personal responsibility problems where people think they can ignore the orders at the gunpoint of an arms state trooper and not get shot. |
| 5:15.0 | As well as the fact that the city's policies have created again and I've reported on this, we've discussed this on separate cases where people feel it's okay to come to the city of Belarus. |
| 5:29.0 | Well, that's it, you know, that's and Ben and that's what I want to get to. I mean, obviously the shooting is under investigation and we'll let the investigation play out and we'll find out all the facts obviously. |
