He worked as an interpreter for more than a decade during the war in Afghanistan.

I have been in over 100 attacks like they were trying to kill us.

But every day was a new day.

I wanted to change my life, and I'm going to tell you that one.

Back in 2007, I was in Eastern Port of Afghanistan.

A province called Lagman Province, SLAGHMAN.

Fred was in Lagman to help US soldiers search for Taliban leaders.

One day, he was standing outside the space, chatting with a bunch of Americans and other

Afghans.

It was a nice spring day.

And Fred says they had this gorgeous view.

It looked down on a valley with a small town nearby.

A mountain and green forests were on the horizon.

So the troops said this took some pictures.

We did it.
