Last week, Russia took control over the Ukrainian city of Buckmoot with the help of Yvgeny

Pregozin, founder and leader of the Wagner mercenary group, which has been assisting Russia

with its war in Ukraine.

But the victory seemed fleeting for Pregozin, who gave a lengthy interview to a pro-war

Russian blogger, saying that Russia's war might backfire.

In the interview, Pregozin reaffirmed his loyalty to Putin, but expressed concerns about

the way the Kremlin is approaching the war in Ukraine.

For today's episode, I chose an episode from January 20th, 2018 about Putin, in which

the Guardian's Moscow correspondent, Sean Walker, joined special guest host, Alina

Poliokova, to discuss his book, The Long Hangover, Putin's New Russia and the Ghost

of the Past.

They discussed Putin's use of Russian history as political strategy, the changing landscape
