Summary

My guest today is Lauren Singer, the woman behind the blog and Instagram handle Trash Is For Tossers and the founder of the Package Free Shop. Lauren first gained notoriety when she started living a zero waste life, and was featured on the Today Show, CNN, The Guardian, and more (she even gave a Ted talk!). Now, she’s the successful business woman behind the mega-successful Package Free Shop, which has a brick and mortar store in Brooklyn and an online store, and is the home to everything you need to cut back on waste in your life, from menstrual cups to beeswax wraps to bar shampoo to metal straws. I’m gonna be honest: while I care deeply about the environment, I wouldn’t normally listen to a podcast about it, simply because I find the subject so depressing, mostly because I feel like there’s so little I can do that actually makes a real difference on a national or global level. But I promise—this episode is not depressing AT ALL. It’s truly so empowering—you’ll come away juiced and feeling positive about the direction of the world. It’s a great episode if you’re looking to live a lower waste life, but it’s also a great one if you’re interested in living a more conscious life, or working at a job that you feel represents your values and makes the world a better place. We get into Lauren’s career path, her advice for other social entrepreneurs, and how she grew a business for good. We also talk about her personal life: what she does for self care, what she eats in a day, how she combats hormonal depression, and more. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts, so please share them—I’m @lizmoody on Instagram and Lauren is @trashisfortossers. We can’t wait to continue the conversation! Enjoy! PS: Healthier Together is officially a number one best-seller! You can get your copy right here or at lizmoody.com/cookbook. Please keep sending me your creations on Instagram—they make me so happy! This episode is sponsored by Better Help, an online therapy platform that I use and love. On their website, you answer a few questions and are matched with a licensed, professional therapist, who you can be chatting with within 24 hours. You can also schedule weekly video or phone sessions, so you have multiple ways to have therapy in a way that’s convenient for you. Join over 500,000 people using the super affordable serving worldwide by using the link betterhelp.com/healthiertogether to get 10% off your first month of service. It’s changed my mental health and I truly hope it helps you! This episode is also sponsored by Skinny Dipped almonds, which I’m 100% obsessed with. They’re roasted almonds with a super thin layer of chocolate, and they also have a coating of maple syrup and sea salt that gives them a sweet & salty quality that’s utterly addictive. They’re gluten free, made from mostly organic ingredients, and come in amazing flavors—you must try the Peppermint ones, or the Peanut Butter (but also Zack loves the Espresso and the Mint ones so you can’t really go wrong—follow your heart). They’re perfect for when you want a sweet healthy treat (after all, you’re mostly eating almonds!!). They’re truly one of my favorite snacks, and I can’t wait for you to try them.
