Hello, you may have been following the magnificent athletic endeavours over at the Paris Olympics this summer,

but in today's programme, we invite you to delve into the city's artistic adventures too.

We're thinking about France through a literary lens.

In particular, we'll be getting to know one of the country's most famous writers,

Sidoni Gabriel Collette, otherwise known as Collette. But first, let's go poke around the city of Paris,

specifically the neighbourhood of Belleville, which is the setting for Lauren Elkin's novel,

Skaffielding. Lauren is known primarily for her essays on art, philosophy and the female body.

It turns out that these are themes that feature in her debut novel, too.

In scaffolding, she tells the stories of the tenants of one apartment across two different

timeframes.

First, in 2019, there's Anna, a psychoanalyst in her 30s, grieving a miscarriage.
