Summary

On the night of March 4, 2008, 18-year-old Auburn University student Lauren Burk was found on Highway 147 in Lee County, Alabama—naked, bleeding, and fighting for her life. She had been shot in the back and thrown from a moving vehicle. Despite desperate efforts to save her, Lauren died at the hospital. Her car was found burning near the Auburn campus. An iPod belonging to Lauren and a revolver were recovered during the investigation, leading police to Courtney Lockhart, a man with no significant criminal history but a string of recent armed robberies. Lockhart had forced Lauren into her own car at gunpoint, robbed her, stripped her of her clothing, shot her, and pushed her out of the moving vehicle. He then set her car on fire to destroy evidence. Courtney Lockhart was convicted of Lauren's murder and sentenced to death. Despite multiple appeals, his conviction and sentence have been upheld. This episode tells the story of Lauren Burk—a bright, beloved young woman whose life was stolen by a violent criminal—and the father who fought for justice for his daughter. Thrilled that gray January is coming to a close. It is. We're just a few days away from January being over.

0:17.5

A few days away. Finally. And hopefully also less than a few days away from me feeling like my normal self. I don't know what's been going around. I don't know what crud I have, but I've had it for a while and I'm ready for it to stop. I get that. My kids both got something new, but it's not like bad. It's just congestion and stuff, like that nasty. Like my son, I could hear him

snoring. I was like, what is going on? There. That's pretty much what I have. It's very mild.

Like I feel like I have felt like I'm on the verge of getting sick for like a week. But that's

0:51.4

just been the whole sickness, like just that feeling like you're about

0:54.2

to get sick and yeah. It's that's another January thing for sure. I feel like everyone gets

1:00.2

icky, icky stuff in January. So I welcome February. I don't want to aggressively welcome February

Yes.
