We wanted to chat today about Boris Johnson and his new role as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party in Britain.

To start, Dr. Arn, for those who are somewhat unfamiliar with the British system of government, can you tell us the role and what

of the responsibilities of the prime minister? Well, the British political system was produced

through a long history, parts of it not intended at all until later.

And what that means is it's a parliamentary system. There's two houses, a House of Commons and a

House of Lords. The Commons is much more strong than the House of Lords. And the House of Commons, the majority party in the House of Commons,

picks the people who formed the government, including the Prime Minister.

And that devolved from a system where the King was picking his ministers,

but the House of Commons especially got stronger and stronger,

and eventually they took that away from him.

And so that's how it came to be the way it is.

Now, the prime minister, it means what it says, he's the first among the ministers.
