Trevor Lane here for Lakersnation.com. You're home for everything. Lakers, and this is thelakersnation.com offseason show. That's right. The Lakers might not be playing right now. We still have tons of Lakers basketball to talk about breakdown as we get ready for next season. We're going to be taking your questions and comments coming in from YouTube, Facebook, and Periscope. But, of course, if you're listening to the Apple Podcast version of this show, make sure you do rate, review and subscribe or Spotify, wherever you're listening to the show us a little bit of love. Joining me tonight is Matt the optimist, Peralta. Matt, how are you doing, man? Do it well, Trevor. Do it well. Learning to love playoff basketball without the lakers in it

0:56.9

are you uh are you still maintaining that optimism despite the lakers not being uh not being in action

1:03.6

i think i am i'm i'm still fairly convinced that the lakers be playing right now if they were

1:10.5

healthy so you know all things considered you can't really there weren't too many things like am. I'm still fairly convinced that the Lakers would be playing right now if they were healthy.

1:11.0

So, you know, all things considered, you can't really, there weren't too many things Lakers could do other than be healthy. And obviously they couldn't do that. But I'm hoping for next season that full off season for LeBron James, Anthony Davis, the rest of the guys, gets us back on top. I guess let's start there. Because that's, I think that's going to be the biggest and one of the most interesting things of the offseason for me is how does Rob Polika look at things.

1:31.5

He made a bunch of comments during the exit interviews about how he felt like he put together a championship team.

1:38.4

Like this was a championship team, but it was external factors that prevented it from reaching that goal.

1:45.8

It was injuries. It was COVID stuff. All of that stuff is what really stopped them from reaching that goal. So with that in mind,

1:52.0

how aggressive do you think Polinka is going to be in terms of running it back versus go out there

1:58.0

and add new pieces?

2:03.1

I think it really depends what's on the market.

2:07.7

I think any time there's a chance to upgrade the roster, in this case, I know Rob said that he's going to be looking at shooting as a priority this offseason.

2:10.3

If there's someone on the market that's available via trade or free agency that the

2:13.7

Lakers can go and get, I think they'll be incredibly aggressive.

2:15.8

But I honestly don't think that if the Lakers decided to ultimately just run it back, bring back literally everyone for next season, I think they would still have to be considered a title favorite. So I don't think there's necessarily too much pressure to improve the roster. But I think given that it's the Lakers we're talking about, LeBron James has a very short window to continue to compete for titles. I think they're going to be aggressive for sure, but I don't know. I still like this roster. I think there's a lot of what-ifs with this roster, kind of like what-mas Matthews said in his exit interview, that there was just so many what-ifs with this Lakers roster that it's just truly hard to evaluate how good

2:51.8

they could have been. So I guess all at all, what I'm trying to say is that if there's a shooter out there in the market that the Lakers can get realistically, I say they should go all in for it. But if the worst-case scenario is running it back with this team, I think there are worse places to be. I guess let's even dive right into this.

2:48.8

You mentioned a shooter, and I agree.
