Summary

In Finland, near Helsinki, there exists a body of water over a square mile in size, known as Lake Bodom. Over 50 years ago, a small group of teenagers went out to this area to camp and enjoy a night of drinks and fun. Unfortunately the events that would occur at their campsite would fall short of anyone’s definition of fun. Sometime between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 am, an unknown suspect, standing outside of the tent would slash and bludgeon three of the teens to death. Only one, Nils Gustafsson would survive the violent onslaught. The local police department was not only caught off guard by the gruesomeness of the crime scene, but would go on to conduct a less than thorough investigation. The unique part of this case is not just the violence but also the fact that multiple significant suspects would admit to committing the crime at different times. To this day, no one has officially been convicted of the murder of Maila Björklund, Anja Mäki and Seppo Boisman.

0:58.0	And this topic was suggested to us by Puyves who lives in Finland and ask us to look into this notorious crime mystery.
1:05.0	I just wanted to say before we get started that doing research for this particular crime
1:12.3	mystery is really dark and disturbing
1:15.8	situation but it really has kind of a interesting storyline so Lake
1:20.7	Bodum is actually a lake by the city of Espu and that's 22 kilometers or 14 miles
1:27.6	northwest of the country's capital, Helsinki. And in the early hours of June 5th 1960 four teenagers who were camping on the
1:36.7	shores of Lake Bodum were suddenly and violently attacked by an unknown
1:41.8	assailant and three of the four teenagers would end up
1:44.9	brutally murdered. As a famous cold case, the Lake Bodum murder case has remained
1:51.6	a notorious topic in Finland.
1:56.3	So a fascinating aspect of this infamous scene
2:00.0	is that multiple separate suspects
2:02.2	would actually confess to committing the crimes at different times.
2:06.0	And instead of making this a clear-cut case, it rather just makes this mystery more confusing so to date there's still
2:15.3	no clear explanation as to who committed the murders or why. So on this episode we
2:20.4	will be discussing the backstory leading up to the Lake Bodum event as well as going over the details of the martyr scene.
